My current body of work deals with a fantastical
setting in which animals, humans and creatures adorn textured and patterned fabric, jewels and other ornamental attributes.
The liberties I take with the human form are to provoke an emotional response more common in a dream than in reality. The
rendering of certain elements of the paintings (i.e. cloth, hands, eyes or feet) create an earthly weight that acts as contextual
gravity, while creating a familiar space for the viewer to rest. Things that interest me in the visual realm of experience
tend to revolve around the human body. In describing it, I generally approach it from the surface. However, this view tends
to have its limitations in true representation of the human condition, I find myself looking further. These studies have primarily
been chosen on their aesthetics. I find things interesting and beautiful, and then I find its relevance in defining the human
condition. Disease, parasites and viruses are my favorite things to look at and render. Working from the inside out is another
way in which I can present an accurate human depiction, by rendering its ailments. Though this concept is less than subtle,
I feel it is still important thing for me to consider while painting the human figure, as these things are present in every
subject I attempt represent. When describing a person by its physical inadequacies or inefficiencies, I can allow multiple
views of life and death. “Sager’s paintings blend luminous brilliance with grounding, earthy hues. Her brushstrokes
mediate extremes with texture and movement. Layers of color convey notions of romance and emotional character. Linear qualities
evoke levels of context and definition. Her use of human form clearly invites the public into the artist’s realm where,
beyond the surface, intensity and abstraction provide foundation.” Aldo Noboa
